sorry posted question in wrong area..... Although I did have a plumber that asked me for a metal hanger, a few minutes later he had it bent and was using it to stick down the toilet bowl....he said his usual tool was in the shop...he scratched up the bowl pretty good. Then said he only accepted cash.

In certain places on this planet a guy trying that would get cut and left to die a slow painful death or the very least have his fingers removed.

A Wire hanger is used to remove / lift a tub stopper through the over flow NOT for toilets as the hanger will not pass the integral trap and like you found out can damage the china surface. Any decent handyman let along a plumber would use a closet auger that protects the china and the cable will pass through the trap and hopefully retrieve the obstruction..DEMANDING cash is a no, no for any legitimate company as the majority of master plumbers accept personal check , credit cards or in most of the cases I just bill the accounts EVEN NEW ONES as they also have to trust I did the work properly..
